Du GiangTiếng Việt

The Du Giang story

In the Êđê language, Du Giang means “river” — a lasting, pure source of life that flows through and nourishes the villages of the Central Highlands.

Inspired by the Êđê mother

The Êđê are a matrilineal people: women are the pillars of the family, something rare in Vietnam. This is where Du Giang begins.

A mother carrying her child on her back in an A Păn scarf on the way to the fields is one of the most moving images of these highlands. The mother is the great sun, warming her child with song; the child is the small sun — the hope sleeping safely on her back.

“Sleep well, my dear little one. Mother is off to the fields, father is off to work.”

Êđê lullaby (translated)

The meaning of our logo

A stylised, flowing river is woven into the A Păn scarf to form the figure of a mother carrying her child.

The book stands for knowledge; the bird in flight for freedom and hope for the next generations of Êđê, carrying their culture out into the world.

Our mission

Du Giang works towards the sustainable development of the Êđê community: growing people, preserving traditional culture and protecting nature.
